Wiig wins five star Honda Session; Horgmo moves into Swatch TTR world no. 5

The Slopestyle portion of the sixth annual Honda Session, a Swatch TTR FIVE(5)STAR Event, went down last night in Vail, Colorado USA. The Session took place under bright lights with the event’s signature pyrotechnics blasting a huge flame into the air as riders hit the last jump.

Andreas Wiig (NOR) took the title as Torstein Horgmo (NOR) moved into Swatch TTR World No. 5 with his second place finish, knocking down Chas Guldemond (USA), who finished third, into TTR World No. 6.
Horgmo was more than pumped after learning the results from the slopestyle competition: “I’m so stoked about moving up to TTR World No. 5!” he exclaimed.  “I’ve been liking the TTR system more and more.  It keeps getting more legit.  All the contests on the TTR circuit are the best out there.”

The Slopestyle contest was a jam format, meaning riders had 90-minutes to throw down as many runs as they could squeeze into the time frame. The course was made up of a huge four-jump line plus a skate-style rail setup at the bottom of the course.  Each jump got progressively larger with the first jump measuring in at 50-feet, the second at 60-feet, the third at 70-feet and the finally the last jump was a massive 80-footer. Needless to say, the riders were putting up some massive airs.

Andreas Wiig had some killer runs and was able to claim the top spot of the night and sits at TTR World No. 80.  His best run started off with a BS rodeo 9, into a Cab 10, BS 9, FS 1080, a huge ‘Craig Kelly’ method on the hip and finishing up with a FS Boardslide on the gap box.  Torstein took second place with a switch FS 9, FS 10, BS 9, switch BS 12, a huge tweaked out indy on the hip and a tail press on the down box. Chas Guldemond took third place throwing down a switch BS 9, FS 7 tail, Cab 9, BS 12, a McTwist in the bowl and a 270-on-270-off on the down box.

The battle between Chas Guldemond and Torstein Horgmo began early on with the DC teammates throwing down some jaw-dropping runs.  Torstein set the bar high with a near-flawless run but Chas answered with a high-caliber run of his own. In the end Torstein prevailed claiming the Swatch TTR World No. 5 spot. A definite highlight of the night was Chas landing a 1440 on his last run, his first ever in competition.

There were some big moves lower down in the TTR Rankings as well. DC Rider Lonnie Kauk (USA) who placed fifth in the Honda Session at Vail has moved into World No. 24, as Tim Humphreys (USA) keeps a spot in the TTR Top Ten at World No. 9 after his 7th place finish in Vail. Austrian rider Werner Stock, although placing 18th at the Honda Session, has moved up to World No. 39 and Wyatt Caldwell (USA) sits in the Top 20 at TTR World No. 18.

It was another standout year for the Swatch TTR FIVE(5)STAR Honda Session at Vail with top-notch riding and good times all around for riders and spectators alike.  You can check out all the action on sessionvail.com and on go211.com.  Also be sure to check out the Honda Session video footage on ttrworldtour.com.
